Have recently removed a Potterton Netaheat and replaced with Ideal Icos. Connected on to a fully pumped/open vent s-plan. The customer insisted on using an electrician they know who appears to be Part P registered but has no experience with heating systems, but has recently done all the other wiring in the house as its been renovated. The exsisting pump and 2 way valves were used as they appear to be in good condition.
When I went to comission the system as soon as you turn the fuse spur on the pump starts running, even though there is no demand for heating or hot water, once there is a demand (pump still running) the boiler fires as it should and rads and cylinder heat as they should, only thing is when heating and hot water are turned off the pump still runs, obviously this is expected with pump overrun but 2-3 hours after heating and HW are turned off the pump still runs. Going back down next week with the electrician I usually work with but does anyone have any idea's, when there is a demand for heat both valves open and close as they should and when the cylinder stat or room stat are turned down the boiler turns off as expected. The other thing was after the heatings been on for a while the boiler over heats and locks out, pump is running ok would this be caused by a botched wiring job or is it just a case of a dodgy overheat thermostat and a job for ideal?? Manufacturers instructions mentions increasing pump settings to increase differential temp across boiler could it be the pump needs changing??

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Seems to me that the most likely explanation for the pump running all the time is that the thermostat controlling the pump overrun is stuck in the 'on' position. So I would swap this stat first. (The stat may be a combined assembly with the boiler stat -- so you will be swapping both).

Of course it's also possible that the pump has been wired to a permanent live terminal, instead of where it should have been wired (??)
