| Got a Apollo Fanfare 15/30S which has finally died. Plumber I know usually recommends combis..but having done this before know it would involve a lot of pipework changes, tanks out, disruption. Tricky at mo as new baby and money tight so I'm thinking of a like-for-like swap to minimise work etc. Circ Pump and motorised valve replaced in last 18 months so those bits should be fine. Got two questions. 1) Someone on the net says that the cheapest way to replace a boiler is buy it yourself and pay a CORGI fit? Can be done in as little as half a day?? But 1 day tops. Price £200-£350. Does this sound right? If so it would work out cheaper than the £1200+ prices I've heard from people at work. 2) If I opt to get a quote from a CORGI to supply and fit, what sort of price inc vat should I expect to be paying in Cambridgeshire. 3) Can anyone recommend a good 30000 BTU boiler. Looking on the net the Pott Suprima 30HE and Ideal Classic HE9 Condenser appear good value. Many thanks. |

Sorry for late reply! This is an area of the site I dont usually see.
You can replace with a heat only boiler and the Worcester 12 Ri would be a good one to choose.
If you go for a £200-£350 installation then you wre likely to get a very poor installation at that price and its unlikely any CORGI would do it at that price.
The installation should be power flushed. That takes about 3-5 hours and needs £35 of chemicals.
Normally you should have TRVs fitted to the rads and a room stat. If your cylinder is not foam covered it should normally be replaced with an up to date one. They now have good insulation and more rapid reheat.
