Hi all I was thinking about getting a coil of pipe and wrapping it around
the flew of a central heating system. Crazy idea but when the system was
heating your cold water naturaly, what if we used the water from the
coiled pipe around the flew as the supply, as you use the system the flew
would get hotter and heat the water in the coil. Imagine heating up hot
water . You could even use the outside of the heat exchanger as a pre
heat source.
Just a thought

The heat recovery idea has already been done, in a manner of different ways. Ferroli used to have a combined heat exchanger in their earlier boilers for both central heating and HW. So it recovered latent heat from the CH.
The flue system does work and is called Zenex GasSaver, it uses condensate recovered from the flue and preheats a combi (or other water heater) inlet.
Ravenheat have also got something which looks similar, but since we don't fit their stuff I haven't bothered looking at the detail. |

Thanks for the reply. HSP I could use the inside of the flue over the heat
exchange (i wouldnt wanta put my hand there ) SIMOND Thanks for the
advice, I have an old combi and was thinking about making it more cost
efective before spending the money to replace it.
