|
|
Recently i have noticed that the overflow from the f&e tank is running & the water is warm & sometimes hot. I was told that it could be the coil inside the cylinder that is split & the water is mixing? I have turned off the hot water & ch a few days ago & left the immersion on but its still flowing so before i go & buy a cylinder i just want to confirm this is right?
any help much appreciated |

following the recent tragedy of a child being scalded by a burst water cold water storage tank installed in the loft. i have been led to understand that the hot water was heated by an immersion heater with a faulty thermostat which caused the hot water to expand and relieve into the loft storage tank which was not designed to withstand excessive hot water and consequently split pouring gallons of hot water through the bedroom ceiling.
I am not an expert and do not have access to the official facts ,but suggest that if u havn`t already solved your problem that u look at this as an urgent possibility. Regards alan |

i agree with the 1st answer please insure you imm heater stat has a thermal cut out device fitted . but your problem could be a hole in hot water cylinder coil if your f&e tank is sitting on your loft floor and not above the cold water storage tank ( because water finds it own level and if the two waters are mixing. water will discharge out the small tanks over flow.) but if the f&e tank is fitted correctly ie above the cold water storage .water will discharge out the lower tanks over flow ie cws .one safe way to check if the coil is split is to turn off the cold mains supply to the the property and open up the hot tap and drain the cold water storage to just above the tap ins for the cold down service (prevent any airlocks ) and monitor the level in the f&e tank if the level has droped at all then yes you need to have a new hot water cylinder. please give me an update as there may be another reason if the information you have given me is not entirly true .
