Hi there,

My kitchen is extremely humid, but it's also very cold. I want an extractor fan installed, but not something that will cool the kitchen down even more. Is there a fan I can get which shuts "properly"? I mean, what's the point of double-glazing if I'm going to have a big piece of plastic as half the window?

Looking forward to a solution!

Many thanks,
Shant

Most better extract fans have slats which close when not in use.

If you have a gas hob you may need permanent ventilation.

That's what I meant, they have these slats, but how good are the slats?

What's the extractor fan with the best slats? How much should I expect to spend on a good extractor fan (I don't care about the appearance)?

Smile
Thanks again,
Shant

Why do you also look at a heat recovery unit that will re-use the heat that is being extracted and transfer it to the incoming air. Vent Axia do one.

Whilst they do have a use many of the cheap domestic ones have a very poor recovery efficiency of much less than 30%.

Furthermore some types of cooking can foul them up very quickly.

The best ones are are the two fan loft fitted types which can recover about 60% of the heat.
