Hi all

I have a Baxi Bermuda back boiler which works fine but has an ugly fire front. I know you can replace these but the choice is limited.

I'm thinking of removing the fire (as I never use it) and building a surround for the fireplace and covering the boiler with a panel to hide it (ensuring adequate ventilation of course). The fire part is connected by a few bolts/screws and the gas connection serviced by a valve which you can turn a quarter turn to shut off gas to the fire only and then undo the union.

My question is - as a DIYer can I remove the fire myself or is this a CORGI job?

Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Nick

Hi,

You cant remove the fire front from a back boiler because the spigot off the fire makes up part of the flue for the back boiler.

Also your not allowed to just isolate a gas run using an isolation valve, the open end has to be capped off as well.

Don't attempt it, get yourself a corgi reg engineer and see what he has to say.

HI, I agree with Dan. Don't do it!
There has been quite a bit written on the right thing to do with a fireafter the BBU has been disconected.
I know you are trying to look at this the other way round. But I cant recall reading any advice on this. The fire and BBU are "One"
You must not just turn off the valve and remove its pipe as you are then betting your life on the valve sealing forever, and not feeding gas into the side of your boiler or up the flue as it waits for the pilot light to "Catch" it
BA BOOM Sad

I have seen people put a decorative stand in front of the fire to hide it, I suppose with that valve turned to off for the fire.

Be Carefull out there. Dob
