| Can anyone tell me what kind of upheaval is involved in removing an old conventional boiler and replacing it with either a combi or a condensing boiler? Are we talking weeks of dust & dirt, or is it a fairly simple job over a couple of day with minimal disruption? |

I've just done exactly that - I had a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard which I ripped out (along with all the plumbing in the loft) and sited the condensing combi there. The cylinder has boiler flow and return to it, so this is where I plumbed the central heating flow and return (remembering to blank off the old flow and return where the old boiler was - in the kitchen). The mains supply to the loft ran through the airing cupboard which I plumbed for the cold supply into the new boiler, and the hot domestic water from the new boiler plumbed to the pipe that went to the top of the cylinder.
I have a gas fire in the lounge which had a pipe run round the outside of the house to feed that - I T'ed into that and ran it up the oustide of the house, through the wall and to the boiler.
The 15mm overflow T's to the 22mm condesate waste that goes through the wall and down to a soke away in the ground.
Had to hire core drill for the flue which was an effort, but ok in the end
Easy really - done in a day _________________ Plumbing is simple |

This bol chap says plumbing is simple but I suggest you read his other threads.
He has every confidence in his abilities. Unfortunately he is technically clueless and without any experience or qualification in this field.
That's the trouble with internet forums, it's difficult to tell a tradesman from a dog, unless you are a plumber or a breeder. |

This SimonD chap has nothing else to excite his silly little existence as to spend his evenings geeking about his vast expanse of plumbing knowledge - you need to find yourself a girl... or a boy if you are that way inclined.
...oh... and Simon, I rent that house out now, and have a gas safety certificate from a corgi plumber, who was very happy with all my gas appliances...
I suspect Simon is an excellent tradesman, but also a narrow minded corgi dog... I sure hope it doesn't breed; who knows what mongrel it may produce. _________________ Plumbing is simple |

...oh and SimonD did not respond to my last thread re: CORGI... asking what exactly they do... So Simon, do let me know...
... and get a hobby or something, do up an old classic car, play golf, go to the pub, collect some stamps, go see a movie...
anything man, you need to get out _________________ Plumbing is simple |

I am not going to give CORGI any support here. They overcharge the industry - which then has to recoup its fees from customers - and are a wasteful overstaffed government quango.
The only real reason for their being in existence is to prevent untrained ignoramuses from duping the public into thinking their work is safe, and causing death by explosion or carbon monoxide poisoning.
I would argue that you and your ilk are the sole reason CORGI was formed and has to continue, to protect your family, neighbours, the general public and unwary tenants. |

Its amazing the arrogance of some of these DIY people!
I cannot imagine how a single person can change a traditional system to a combi in a single day when a professional would take three days ( to do it properly that is! ).
I wonder how long he took doing the power flushing???
Perhaps this was his house?

the over flow into the condesate is wrong!!!!!!
you better change that !!
How did you work out your gas pipe sizing and did you smoke tets the fire???
Well to answer the original question - its 3 days work with minimal distruption _________________ Dont cha wish your bouyfriend was a plumber like me !!! |
