Hey, I'm a 16 year old lad and have just left school after completing my exams.
I want to become a plumber and was wondering what would be the best option to do out of an apprenticeship (which I am luckily enough to have if wanted) where I go to college once a week.
However, I also have the option of going to college 3 times a week to learn the trade.
I was just seeking some advice from most of you experienced plumbers and would be grateful on any advice.
Thanks. |

Hi,
Not sure where you live, but I have just finished a two year C&G Tech Level II at Bedford plumbing College in Kempston. Its not the best run college in the world, and there are a lot of lazy teenagers who just want to mess around when they should be making the best of a golden oppertunity. All because they get an extra £30:00 a week dole money.
But if you are really interested in doing this, there are plenty of places you could try; For instance, start at your nearest college or uny. Even if they don't do the course, they can direct to the nearest place that does. That's what I did, and Iam 43 years old. So no matter how old you are, theres always somewhere doing a skills course. Just put the time in, and you'll get a result.
Hope this helps.

i wouldn't disagree with Agrafes6 but you've got a chance to do the apprentice route.
on the job training instead of being stuck in class is going to give you the best knowledge you will ever get. you will see how all the awkward bits get done instead of on a bench in class.
it may take longer to get qualified but you will have the experience to go with it instead of being fresh out of college thinking you know it all, only to prove you don't as soon as something that's not text book comes up.
good luck either way |
