www.leadsheetassociation.org.uk
ive tried the above website, our college gave it to us and said all the information you want will be on there...but i cant find anything.
basically im doing nvq level 2 basic plumbing, which is a 2 year course, and they give you an orange book which quite a few different tasks in it. ive performed all the tasks in the plumbing workshop getting photographs etc, now i need a summary description! ive done a summary description for a few of the tasks but our teacher has told us we have 1 week remaining untill the iv comes to mark it all and i havnt done the summary description for my lead weathering set REF. SW-6 in the book.
front apron
back gutter
soakers
cover flashing
side flashing
i have to talk about the above items but i didnt take any interest in lead work as i hated it.

| Go back and have another look, you wont be any good as a plumber if you canot do lead work, you would only be a pipe fitter |

Materials list for lead flashings:-
4500m x 600mm code 4 lead
Firstly I cout out 1000mm of lead for the front apron. I marked out the lead and then bossed the lead into shape. I fitted it onto the chimney and held it into place with lead wedges.
Secondly I cut out 1000mm of lead for the step flashings. I marked out the lines and cut out the wedges and then folded in 25mm of lead into the mortar. Then held it in place with the lead wedges. I then bossed the step flashings and soakers into place.
I then made a paper template for the back gutter. I then cut out 1000mm and placed the template on the lead. I marked out the lead and cut/folded along the lines. I then made some gussets and put them in place. I then welded the gussets onto the back gutter by using a butt weld. I then bossed the back gutter into place.
I cut out the cover flashing. I worked out the chimney dimensions and folded the flashing into place. I then put 25mm of lead into the mortar. Securing the back gutter aswell.
Finally I coated the flashings with patination oil making sure I used a lint free cloth.
This is what I used when I done it, was all fine when the IV came in. |

I find it strange that us plumbers dont like doing leadwork-why? I spent most of my apprenticeship on roofs in summer conditions soaking up the best of the british weather. There is nothing better than lead work when the sun is shining- peering over the scaffold...every now and then of course! When I left the company to go self employed I decided I would carry on doing leadwork as its a passion of mine, the results are instantanious and I know I never have to go back it when its finished.
