Hello, i hope someone can help me!?
We've just moved in to a 19 year old house with a old Ideal Elan RS55.
The problem that we have is when the boiler is set to it's "low" setting the boiler operates fine. When it's set to "High" the boiler keeps firing up then stopping, firing up and stopping every 10 to 20 seconds and makes a sort of fluttering noise!!
Could someone point me in the right direction to start a diagnosis? Also if anyone has a manual associated with this boiler or an exploded diagram for it i would appreciate it!
Thanks in anticipation,
Andy

Thought i may aswell post an answer to my own question!
The problem turned out to be the over heat thermostat located at the top left of the boiler (after the cover is removed). It was slightly rusted, but once removed and cleaned up it worked like a charm.
Just have to sort out the switching (?) valve which switches from central heating over to water only. That seems to be sticking, as when i select water only i get both central heating on and hot water! Hey ho, i'll get there in the end....
