Leaking Close Coupled Toilet Cistern

Why is my toilet cistern suddenly leaking from the nuts that connect the close coupled cistern to the toilet. Is there a seal between the cistern and the actual toilet part that has gone? I thought it might be condensation dripping from the nuts but I don't think so. Suggestions please.
