A long shot I think, but are there any other options apart from bulky night storage heaters for a central heating system? No mains gas supply is available and there is no room for oil or gas storage tanks. Are there any slimmer type oil filled rads or something similar?

Yes of course!
Underfloor electric heating.
But presumably you will find an objection to that?

If you've only got electricity for heating, what about electrically heated heatstore system.
See for example http://www.gledhill.net/docs/index-water.htm.
(Although I guess it would be expensive to operate, it would probably be cheaper to run than 'hot rocks'-type storage heaters.)

Electric Underfloor heating is ery expensive to run, as it will heat up the floor during the day when there is no economy 7 tarriff.
You can buy electric boilers to heat a conventional radiator system, but the same arguments of running costs apply.
You could consider solar energy for the hot water, grants are available....
You dont say why you want to change...that would be interesting!
