I am thinking of buying one of those water softeners that you plug in. The ones with the wires that wrap round the pipe. Anyone had any experience with these?? Are they any good???

There not water softeners, there scale preventers and are very good for that purpose.

I don't understand. Isn't scale removal the same thing as water softening?

Iggy,

Water softening using salt exchange process remove the calcium and magnesium ions from the water (well that is what it is supposed to do but is not a guarantee). In it's place sodium is introduced to the water at twice the amount of calcium and magnesium removed.

The physical water conditioners technically "do not soften the water" but prevent, remove and control the hardness/scale forming concerns while keeping the healthy calcium and magnesium in the water.

Regards,

Tony P

hello,

the electric water treatments you are asking about are ok with running water because they change the stucture of the scale if it sits in a water tank for to long it can revert back, see the hydraflow add on this page for more info...Your NameYour Name
