Hi, fitted a 4" inline bathroom ceiling fan as part of a bathroom renovation I have been doing, it is supposed to clear 85cu/Mh, the bathroom is only 7.2cu/M, the customer wasn't happy with the performance and said that it wasn't clearing the steam even with a small amount of water in the bath, I had to offer to either take it out and give them there money back, or leave it in for half price which they went for, I spent 3.5 hours fitting it including ladder on and off the van, drilling with core drill blah blah blah, I have done a first class installation and only come out with £22.00 for 3.5 hours work, not very happy at all, why is everthing in plumbing such crap, the bath panel was sh*t and took two hours to fit having to use pipe insulation to pack it here and there to get it something reasonable, there are FAR too many things in plumbing and heating which just are not fit for the purpose of***************************

Not sure what you are saying here.
£22 for 3.5 hrs work, does that mean you were going to charge £44 for fitting a fan? What did you halve the price of?
Core drilling is not cheap so I can't see how you have priced the job. And the fan is to provide ventilation not clear steam. The bath was obviously too hot.

Perhaps the extractor isn't working because the room is "airtight." The extractor is trying to create a vacuume.
I have had a similar problem - leave a crack in the door and it all becomes clear.

MB, I was already booked in to do the bathroom and they asked me to fit the fan as an extra, as I was already going to be there I did not have to allow for any traveling time so I quoted £150.00 to supply and fit which they accepted, I only got paid £75.00 which meant my profit was only £22.00 after materials, bearing in mind I also had to make a special trip to fetch the materials I start work at 7.30am, because the electrical merchant I use does not open till 8.30am and closes at 5.00pm and was not enroute to the job, so in the time wasted I could have done a boiler service means I basically made a ****ing loss.
The REALLY annoying factor as well is that because the bathroom is so small and the window is a fair size I ORIGINALLY tried to talk them out of having a fan at all, but they were adamant they wanted one.
ED, there is no carpet fitted at the moment so there is a reasonable gap under the door, maybe it's not big enough !.

Maybe you wired it up wrong and its sucking instead of blowing.

No, tested for that on completion of job using sheet of toilet paper, it held while fan running then fell to floor when switched off.

Should have got the customer to supply the fan. Its a low value item and more likely to cause grief than worth any mark up you stood to gain.

Your right there mate, the customer supplied all the rest of the materials as I wont supply sanitaryware because it is so crap, I wasted half an hour twattin around with the push button flush because it kept passing water after flushing, I had to stretch the large internal spring to make it give more push and lubricate with silicone, I also wasted time masticing and wedging the cistern because there were no fixing holes to secure it to the wall and only two holes to secure the pan to the floor, I had to supply brass back nuts to fix the taps to the bath and basin as they split when trying to get the taps not to spin round, and as I mentioned before the panel was ****e, I had to mastic the chrome peice of the push up waste in position as it fell out of it's hole first time it was used.
After 32 years at this game I am wondering when things are going to get better, they just seem to get worse as far as I can see, I spend so much of my time beefing up manufacterers crap products to make a decent job.
