I intend to install a 'Passive Stack' from the under ground floor void through 2 floors to a gable and thence to the outside via a rotating cowl at gable height.

The reason for all this is to complement the work, including installing through wall ventilation and silicon impregnation, that we will do in the sub ground floor void to resolve lack of ventilation and damp.

But I want also to assist this 'Passive Stack' by adding an in-line fan; running this, say 2 hours a day on an electric timer mechanism.

Can you see any pitfalls and have you any tips and tricks I might use ?

Thanks in advance.

You will have to ensure that the fan does not obstruct the shaft as you will want thermal energy to work the rest of the time. It may be better to add the fan at the bottom of the stack and leaving sufficient cross-sectional area for passive ventilation to occur.
