Santoprene pipes are small bore are in a double or triple wall pipe design, here the manufactures claim a plus that warm water can be fed in from both ends and thus improve the evenness of the heat distribution.
Although this is also achieved in some system by running dual loops.
These systems are run at a low temperature and usually connected to a thermal store, which increases complexity buy can improve efficiency. The pipes being smaller are very flexible and can be laid simply & quickly. On the first floor they are normally clipped direct to the underside of the floor decking, with an aluminium foil reflector underneath, then a layer of insulation. All Santoprene systems along with most UFH systems are separated from the boiler by means of a heat exchanger or Thermal store cylinder creating closed system, which is adjusted to operate at one bar pressure with a water temperature of 60 degrees Celsius, maximum.
A low water temperature in the closed loop system minimises any chemical reaction. The system therefore contains water that remains clean thereby reducing wear on the pump and ensures a free flow of water through the underfloor system.

What is the life expectancy of the pipe?
The quoted life expectancy of at least 100 years, provided that the system is installed in accordance with manufacturers instructions.

I have heard rumours of pipe failure, are these true?
There have been instances of pipe failure but these have been when installed without a thermal store, resulting in over temperature & over pressure. As far as is known no cases of failures of correct installations have been reported.
