Hey all,

I have recently started my own company. I am only 19 but i got thrown into my apprenticeship head first so i Ive got more experience than one would expect.

I was wondering how other self employed engineers present there quotation letter?

For example i have a job where the customer wants a back boiler and cylinder removing. They then want a Worcester Combi and inset gas fire fitting. I have worked out the price working on £120 a day for a corgi reg engineer ( which i am ) does this sound about right?

I ve heard of some companies itemising there quote and some writing out exactly what will take place.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You should itemise exactly what will be supplied and what work will be done like power flushing and using X800 and X100 etc.

But most people would advise you against any breakdown of how the final figure is arrived at.

A few might give two figures like parts and labour but most only give one figure. But do include the basics of what is to be done and what is EXCLUDED???

Are you bricking up the old BBU opening and replastering and painting for example?

Thats a good point, they haven't decided what they want to replace the BBU with as of yet.

They were talking about a Flueless gas fire ( eek! )

I was going to do a separate quote depending on what they chose.

Hi, my only comment on this as a CORGI is that you wouldn't get me for £120 a day.

£160 is a bit nearer for work done but for installation work you should be a lot higher. You are taking responsobility for gas instalation and notifing CORGI.
When somthing is wrong over the next week you will be expected to be there and not charging.

I am removing a floor mounted old dinasour next week and putting a combi on the wall above it. I have told him £500 + boiler + programmer. My man that assists in ripping out and hole drilling etc gets £100. so you see I will get about 300 after pipe & fittings etc.

I do however spend a lot of my time fixing all boilers and base my value on what I may be doing instead of installing.
