According to the water board my water has a rating of 18 degrees clark or 265.5 parts per million. What does this mean, is it high, low or average? Can anyone recommend some good water softeners, I need one with a good flow rate. Are the Kinetico water softeners any good or should i look at others?

Cheers, Andy

Hello Andy,

265 ppm is the total harness of your water. meaning the typical minerals of calcium and magnesium. Although it has scaling potential it still is not bad compared to other area's at and above 600 ppm.

You have not given any details as to the application, so i will just give you a contact name of a company who can help you out.

Contact UK Water Treatment Ltd at email ukwt@hotmail.com You can mention my name Tony Prior if you wish or not.

Any further questions can be directed to me here or by clicking on the more info button.

God luck,

Tony P

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the advice. I'll give them a go. The application is a new H and DHW system based around a new boiler and MegaFlo unvented system.

Cheers, Andy

Kinetico are among the best, You can't use this type of softener on your heating system.

Scruff,

Kenitico is a very good unit when it comes to salt regenerated water softeners, and right again about the application. But, the UK water treatment system can be used here.

Give them them a call if you have not done so by now.

All the best,

Tony P

Thanks Tony.

I'm quite aware of the different systems available, I just thought Andy should know as he mentioned central heating.

I am having a little difficult time understanding why this 'type' of water softener is not recommended for water heaters. What type of water heaters are you talking about. I don't live in England so I am unaware of your applications. Sorry for my ignorance.

We use softeners and especially recommend them before water heaters as they prolong the life of the unit and use less energy when operating.

No worries, I just found this forum. I didn't check dates but topics, instead.

I live in the US and so forgive my different approach of ignorance to certian terms or idiomatic expression, let alone brand names, plumbing applications, and professional jargon.

thanks,
